Chris is the vocalist of the rock group C.Y.S. Like his bandmates Shermie and Yashiro, Chris is also a member of the Four Heavenly Kings of Orochi. Though he has no experience in martial arts, his attacks utilize his small frame and speed to overwhelm his opponents.
At first glance, Chris seems like a well-mannered young boy, however his angelic smile hides his devilish demeanor.

Gameplay Overview
Returning to the series after being absent since KOF 2002, Chris is a character whose defining feature is his speed, and by extension, being quite tricky to defend against.
Chris's moveset is all about mobility, being naturally fast and having access to moves that further add to his mobility, such as his Scramble Dash, Shooting Dancer, and Direction Change. These tools, when put together, give Chris some of the strongest mix-up potential in the game, allowing him to either catch them swinging, or even catch them doing nothing at all. All of Chris's movement allows him to dictate the pace of a match in a way that no other character really can. In addition, his jump CD, a normal notorious in past titles for having obnoxious properties, makes a return, giving him a powerful approach option at mid-range.
However, all this speed comes at a cost, most notably, to his raw damage output, which is some of the game's worst. This normally would not be a huge issue, but it's compounded by having very short range and very poor okizeme, forcing Chris to commit to some potentially risky stuff to maintain pressure. On top of this, Chris tends to struggle against zoning to a degree, as he lacks in answers to deal with conventional zoning tools such as large normals or fireballs. Chris is thus a character who lives and dies by his ability to navigate neutral with his blistering speed.
If frustrating the opponent by zipping all over the screen sounds like your kind of character, then be sure to give Chris a try.
Chris is a pure rushdown character who bursts his opponents down at incredibly high speed. |
Pros |
Cons |
- Extremely Fast: Chris's defining feature is that he is incredibly mobile. He's fast on the ground and in the air, with a great run speed and highly aggressive jump angle. Most of his special moves add even more movement options.
- Hits From All Angles: Chris has ways to hit the opponent from any angle he likes, be it high, low, in front, or behind, and on top of that, he gets a jumping command grab and plus-on-block pressure resets as further options to open up the opponent.
- Strong Strike/Throw Mix: A fast run, jumping command grab in Direction Change, and other offensive options mean the opponent always has to be on the lookout for being thrown, which can force them to try to play around it, making landing hits with Chris easier.
- Difficult to Hit: Chris's small size, fast speed, occasional low profile, low-invincible moves, and multiple strike-invincible specials make him a very frustrating character to pin down with pressure.
- Switch Sides At Will: Chris is a master at controlling what side of the opponent he's on, making cornering him a risky endeavor that could allow Chris to turn the tables and corner the opponent instead.
|
- Very Low Damage: Chris's damage in comparison to the rest of the cast is well below average, with or without meter. The only way Chris can get around this issue is by using his admittedly strong mix-ups.
- Stubby: Chris's normals have some of the shortest range in the game, forcing him to rely on his mobility to get in on opponents who outrange him.
- Poor Momentum: Chris has almost no okizeme from many of his special moves, if they even score a knockdown at all. There are some ways to set up a safe jump or a left/right mix, but in comparison to other characters, these opportunities are very few and far between.
- Bad Answers to Fireballs: Most characters in KOF XV have a move that is either invincible to projectiles or beats them outright; however, Chris only has Climax for this purpose. Without three bars, he needs a well-timed jump or Scramble Dash in order to punish most fireballs.
- Locked into Point: Spending meter with Chris isn't nearly as rewarding as with other characters. This, combined with his limited ability to deal with Guard Cancels and Shatter Strikes, severely limit his effectiveness as a middle or anchor character.

- This can't be whiff cancelled, meaning if you buffer 214A behind it and the 2B whiffs, you'll get a far A instead, which can stop hop attempts on the 2B. This is a useful buffer in fishing for stray 2B hits.

- Elbow strike into kick follow-up (A & EX hits low). Combo ender.
- A version combos from lights, and leaves the opponent standing for immediate pressure.
- Safe on block. You can threaten with 623K after to blow up attempts from your opponent to take back your turn, but the risk/reward is not skewed in your favor.
- If you establish this threat however, you can take your turn even on block if your opponent is scared of the 623K.
- Cancels into any of his supers easily, preferably 236236P.
- Keep in mind characters with 1f command grabs can typically punish this move.
- C version knocks down but only combos from heavy attacks.
- Cancels into his 214214K super easily.
- EX combos from lights and causes a hard knockdown.

- Elbow strike into overhead follow-up.
- The bounce off at the end differs depending on version used, with the B version bouncing forward behind the opponent, and the D version bouncing backwards. The bounce can be canceled into j.236K.
- The D version is usually better as Chris can mix-up the timing of the j.236K to potentially hit the opponent trying to punish a blocked 214D.
- The overhead is interruptable by stand jabs, putting Chris in a counterhit state allowing for full combos from your opponent.
- The animation is similar to 214P, but since 214P is a true blockstring, the opponent can just mash a reversal when they see the first hit, though they are prone to getting hit by the last part of 214A due to them standing.
- Letting the first hit whiff turns the second part of the attack into a long reaching overhead. However the whiff recovery is very long.
- EX version is not an overhead, but instead combos into j.236K/BD for combo extentions. If you don't follow up with j.236K, you get a hard knockdown.

- A dash that crosses through the opponent.
- The B version goes forward, and the D version goes upward.
- The D version can be cancelled into j.236K.
- Heavy normals > 236D > j.236B is even on block and causes a frame trap, though the gap is large enough to be beaten by most light normals.
- No versions have any kind of invulnerability.
- Used to get back in at the end of blockstrings, and to confuse the opponent.
- The EX version goes forwards until it goes behind the opponent, where it then does an attack with an animation similar to 214A.
- On hit, it leaves you plus but far away. On block, it leaves you minus but not punishable except by fast command grabs.
- If the move never goes behind the opponent, Chris suffers a notable recovery period.
